The Kingdom of Cambodia is a predominantly Buddhist nation located in South East Asia, bordering Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. Cambodia was once known as ‘The Pearl of Asia’ and was one of the richest countries in the continent.
During the first week of your trip you will be based in the capital, Phnom Penh, receiving an introduction to the Khmer language and culture. You will also be introduced to young people from our youth discipleship projects. For the second week of your trip, your group will travel by bus and speedboat into northwest Cambodia to serve with our workers in rural village projects. Before flying home, you will have the opportunity to visit Angkor Wat, the largest ancient temple complex in the world.
Cambodia has a tragic recent history. During the 1970s, civil war and genocide carried out by the Khmer Rouge led to over two million people perishing. Religion was banned and schools, factories and universities were closed. Educated people including teachers, doctors, artists, professionals and people of influence were murdered, as were their families. World Horizons has been working in Cambodia since the 1990s, supporting this lost and fatherless generation.
God loves Cambodia and there is hope for the future! Today, just over one percent of the population is Christian, and our team is seeking to reach some of the 11,800 villages who have yet to receive the Gospel. Come with us to explore this fascinating country and be a blessing to its people.
