Nearly three million refugees have fled to Turkey from neighbouring Syria, Iraq and Iran, and more than a third of these have arrived in the past year alone. Over 50,000 live in the city where our team is based; the team are seeking to meet the needs of refugees in their city at this time of crisis by following Christ’s command to love their neighbour.
Bring your group to serve with our refugee ministry on a Group Project. Three times a week our team distributes food boxes to refugee families, providing them with basic supplies. From starting with just five families, there are now over 6,000 registered on their database to receive aid. Your group will participate in these distribution days, as well as receive an orientation to the city, join in soup day at the local church and give a hot meal to the homeless who live at the central bus station.
Depending on your group’s skills and expertise, there are other opportunities to serve including giving basic medical assistance to refugees, teaching them English or providing training in micro-enterprise skills. Your trip will finish with an overnight excursion to explore the famous cave churches of Cappadocia.
In the 15 day option of this Group Project, your group will also learn more about our ministry training programme, and encourage Turkish and Central Asian students who are participating in the course. It is the desire of the Turkey team to see new fellowships emerge in cities where there is currently no church. They have been focusing their prayer and ministry efforts towards a specific province in the north-east of the country, and your group will also make a visit to this region to pray for God’s kingdom to come.
Isaiah 21:14-15: ‘Bring water to these thirsty people, food to these weary refugees. They have fled from the sword, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow and the terrors of battle’. Bring your group to Turkey and join us in standing with those in great need.
