Our Equipping for Service course (E4S) is one of discipleship and spiritual growth, as well as key preparation for working in a cross-cultural environment. The course is suitable for families, single people and couples. |
E4S is an 8 month course, with an additional 'Options' month for those wishing to specialise in an area of interest at the end of the course. We seek to expand your thinking, help you engage with Jesus’ commission to make disciples of all nations, and teach you how to share your faith in diverse contexts.
Who is it for?
The course is suitable for families, single people and couples.
- People applying for a long term position within a World Horizons team
- People who want to work with World Horizons but are unsure of where and what, or
- For anyone who simply wants to engage with God's heart for the nations and grow in their understanding of cross-cultural missions whether in the UK or overseas.
What will I be doing?
Built around community life, character building and growing in knowledge, the Equipping for Service programme provides an exciting and intensive training which is highly experiential. Trainees form a strong community which models the stimulating and challenging context of overseas work. This provides a setting for essential teaching on:
- Spiritual disciplines
- Applied theology
- Cultural adaptation
- World religions
- Church planting models
- Language learning
- Social justice
- and much, much more!
The training we offer is full and varied, encouraging trainees to engage in group work, discussions and placements in the locality, the church, and within our teams. They are also expected to take responsibility for their own learning, consolidating their classroom sessions with practical opportunities to share the love of Jesus through work with multicultural communities and/or local youth.

Where?
For the first three months (mid-September to mid-December) all trainees are based together in World Horizons' UK base in Llanelli, South Wales.
Over the many years that we have been running courses, we have found that the experience of living in community is one of the most valuable things we can offer trainees. Community living involves the sharing of catering and cleaning duties on a rota basis, which gives the opportunity to serve others and learn some important practical skills. It also offers valuable team building experiences and encourages the development of strong friendships between trainees of many different nationalities, backgrounds and ages. Learning about cross-cultural relationships in such a practical way provides excellent preparation for life as part of a team anywhere in the world. In many cases these relationships continue long beyond the end of the course - giving each person a lifelong supporting network of friends around the world.
Trainees also join the Llanelli staff for many of their regular times of prayer and discussion, in doing so they learn about the movement's many different ministries, and the joys and difficulties experienced by workers around the world. All this helps individuals to become integrated into the body of World Horizons and feel part of the global family, which is one of the overall aims of E4S.
For the following five months (January - May) the course continues to be based at the Llanelli Centre but trainees live out in the local community, usually in rented accommodation or lodging.
