We are incredibly grateful for the generous financial support given by individuals and churches to the World Horizons Turkey earthquake Relief Fund. The money raised will provide resources for Turkish believers as they practically support those in need.
We were all moved by the tragic events in Turkey and Syria resulting from the earthquakes of February 6th, 2023. Another disaster, this time natural, affects an area of the world that has seen so much civil war and inter-community strife. Lives have been lost, homes destroyed, and evidently many are urgently in need of shelter.
Direct assistance
World Horizons has a long history of service to the church in Turkey. At the present time we have partners in several locations including churches in areas most affected by these events. The local believers know what they are doing, they have lived through many an earthquake in this geologically unstable land.
The emergency delivery of essential supplies through local Turkish partners to all the affected areas is a vital part of this coordinated response. The whole World Horizons Turkey team are currently supporting these Turkish believers and are well placed to ensure our funds are being used where they are most needed.
Relief centre
An earthquake relief centre has been set up by the Turkish church, where temporary accommodation, including hot meals, are provided for around 100 people. Those effected by the earthquake are also offered trauma counselling, prayer support, activities for their children and therapeutic arts-based sessions.
It is expected that families and whole communities may need strategic aid for at least two years.
