World Horizons UK

Greetings from Wales

May 8, 2025 | lifegiving projects, Stories from the UK

We are Mark and Becky and have been privileged to serve with the World Horizons team in Llanelli, south west Wales for 18 years. We travelled from Kennesaw, Georgia in 2006 with our 4 boys aged 6-11 to be a part of training in Llanelli. After training, the leadership asked us if we would be willing to stay in Wales to help the team and after much prayer we said, “Yes.”
Short-term team in Türkiye

We have held many roles within World Horizons over the years both locally and internationally but now our main focus is on local ministry. We are seeing God do amazing things! There is currently a spiritual awakening like we have never seen, mostly among young people and especially young men.

Llanelli is a post-industrial Welsh coastal town with about forty thousand people – many who don’t know Jesus. The Great Revival of 1904 began on our doorstep where churches were full and pubs were closed, yet the two World Wars crushed the spirit of the nation.

Our hearts are so excited as we are seeing a renewal of young people hungry for the word of God and his truth. We have the privilege to disciple some of these young people in their growth with the Lord, as well as serving our local church and Christian community.

Much of our ministry involves hospitality at the World Horizons Centre for the Nations. This centre was originally a training base for World Horizons mission workers. It is now home to a couple of World Horizons ventures. The hostel style accommodation is ‘Y Doc’ (Welsh for the dock) where up to 85 people can stay, eat, and gather for activities. ‘The Creative Space’ is a multi-purpose community arts space encouraging  people to explore their creativity, discover a sense of place, and build community. We also rent out rooms to ministries, businesses and community groups.

Mark leads the Llanelli team which is made up of workers who serve in a variety of roles within World Horizons. The internationally diverse team includes administrators, member care workers, trainers, hospitality workers and intercessors.

Our daily tasks range from cleaning, making beds, gardening, building maintenance, welcoming visitors, catering and hosting events, just to name a few. But our most important work is coming together and seeking the Lord in prayer – we want to be a part of what he is doing in the nations.

In February, we received over 50 Filipino members of ‘Youth for Christ’ who are on fire for the Lord. We also hosted leaders from the ‘Christian Motorcyclist Association’ whose mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to motorcyclists worldwide. The previous week we welcomed over 50 Brazilians from London who came to pray and intercede on behalf of Wales, the United Kingdom and the nations in an all-night prayer and worship vigil.

Please pray for the ministry of our team here in Wales that God will continue to awaken hearts – that the blocked wells of revival of the past will break forth in Living Water and drench this land. That we can shine His light to all who God brings us.

Come and stay at our Y Doc, bring a group or come with your family. We would love to host you!

David’s story: when God rewrote my plans

When I arrived at the World Horizons centre in South West Wales eight months ago, I had zero intention of going overseas for the gospel. Long term mission work wasn’t even on my radar. I still remember walking along the seafront in Llanelli with the team, chatting to...
