World Horizons UK

A Passion to Pioneer

World Horizons began in the early 1980’s when a group of young people with a desire for adventure asked God where in the world they should go. Setting out to discover the places where their prayers led them, they settled in new countries where they saw the transforming power of Jesus at work in people’s lives. Many of these faithful pioneers are still part of our movement today!

Our Story

Our Story

Who We Are

World Horizons is an intergenerational, culturally diverse movement of around 300 workers serving in 30 nations. From the beginning, we’ve been shaped by a willingness to learn, a pioneering spirit, and a desire to follow God wherever He leads. We pray together, support one another, and seek creative ways to express God’s kingdom in our generation.

Our Story in the UK

Since the 1980s, World Horizons UK has recruited, trained, and sent people into cross‑cultural mission. Our centre in Llanelli, South Wales, remains a key place of encouragement, guidance, and equipping for those pursuing God’s call.

Local World Horizons teams are based in Llanelli and Luton, and we also have individual members and associates living in communities across the UK. Together, they form our wider UK team—people living out their faith in everyday settings, including those in UK‑based roles that support and strengthen international work.

International prayer is also a strong focus, uniting the team in regular, intentional prayer for our global partners and communities, and connecting us with the wider global movement we belong to.

With global migration increasing, the UK is welcoming more refugees, international students, migrants, and skilled workers than ever before. Across the country, our members are finding fresh opportunities to welcome, support, and journey alongside those arriving from other nations.

We long to join God in His mission “to make all things new,” seeking transformation in the places where we live and serve. Our desire is to see new Christian fellowships grow and flourish—especially in communities where none currently exist, both locally and around the world.

Get Involved

There are many ways to join the story God is writing through World Horizons. You may feel called to pray, give, train, serve locally, take on a UK‑based role with international impact, or explore opportunities overseas. Whatever your path, there is a place for you as we seek to make all things new.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes into your life. You will tell about Me in the city of Jerusalem and over all the countries of Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” (NLV) Acts 1:8

We Believe

Everyone should have the opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus Christ, whether that is face-to-face or through digital platforms.

Our Ethos

Our Ethos

Themes which help to define World Horizons

Embracing refugees

God’s heart of compassion for the orphan, the widow and the stranger among us is constantly reiterated throughout the Bible. God’s cry for social justice resonates deeply within our community. We aim to not just preach the good news but to also roll our sleeves up and engage in acts of compassion that will contribute to making this world a better and fairer place for all.

Empowering entrepreneurs

Business as mission is opening doors for ministry among working professionals across the globe.

Enabling prayer

In World Horizons we want to encourage people to take the time to stop, sit at Jesus’ feet and truly listen (Luke 10:41-42). We consider it to be a great part of our work, which is why prayer is one of our core values.

Encouraging the arts

Creative expression has been integral to who we are as World Horizons. It helps shape us and how we share the love and invitation of Jesus among diverse peoples and cultures.

Engaging churches

Those who serve with us all have an experience of church. Many have been sent by their home community, with prayer, and sometimes financial support. Others have previously served in a local church or interacted with many different communities of Jesus’ followers. We firmly believe that local churches help make us better ambassadors of good news in the nations.

Equipping members

Moving between cultures, countries, languages and ways of living can be challenging to navigate. Preparing our members thoroughly for a successful cross-cultural life in ministry is extremely vital. We want them to thrive wherever they are sent, and not just be in survival mode.

Experiencing Adventure

True Christian life is ‘other-centred’; the key to experiencing adventure is being yielded to the Holy Spirit. Submitted to Him, we experience the adventure of life in the obedience of faith.

World Horizons adheres to the Lausanne Covenant. Our passion is for everything we do to come from a place of prayer and an ongoing relationship with God.
