A Passion to Pioneer
World Horizons began in the early 1980’s when a group of young people with a desire for adventure asked God where in the world they should go. Setting out to discover the places where their prayers led them, they settled in new countries where they saw the transforming power of Jesus at work in people’s lives. Many of these incredible pioneers are still part of our movement today!
Our Story
We have learned so much along the way and our passion to pioneer has seen many of us embark on amazing adventures to far flung places. Today, World Horizons has around 400 workers in 30 different countries. We have discovered that we are at our best when we are working into the ‘not yet’ regions. The marginalised and under-served places and people of our world, where the need is very great but so often overlooked.
Historically, World Horizons UK recruited, trained, and sent people to work overseas. Our Centre for the Nations in Llanelli, South Wales was central in this process. We now live during a time where there is greater global migration than at any previous point in history. As people move from anywhere to everywhere, there are incredible opportunities for us to work inter-culturally wherever we live! Advances in digital technology have transformed our communication with people around the world. These changes have expanded our connections with people globally and changed how we play our part in God’s work.
We recognise that there is also much work to do across the UK and we are grateful for those God is sending to work with us here. In the last decade, we have seen increasing numbers of refugees and asylum seekers arrive on our shores. God is bringing the nations to our doorstep and we want to put out a welcome mat for them! Our teams are finding many opportunities to embrace those who arrive from other countries. Maybe you could join them and become part of writing the next chapter of our story!
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes into your life. You will tell about Me in the city of Jerusalem and over all the countries of Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth.” (NLV) Acts 1:8
We Believe
that everyone should have the opportunity to hear about the good news of Jesus Christ, whether that is face-to-face or through digital platforms. We are committed to inviting people to follow and love Jesus!
Areas of Interest
There are some common themes woven throughout what we do which help to define who we are. They are expressed in different and diverse ways through each of our local teams around the UK.
We have seen that the kingdom of God often thrives in surprising places, among the last and the least, those who are forgotten, those on the edge of society. Our desire is to see people flourish, which has led us to encouraging the arts and empowering entrepreneurs. Much of our work is done in partnership with others through engaging churches and equipping workers.
World Horizons adheres to the Lausanne Covenant. Our passion is for everything we do to come from a place of prayer and an ongoing relationship with God.
Open Day
The ideal way to find out how we work as an organisation, where our teams are based and what we do, is to join us for an Open Day event. You’ll be able to take part in tailored sessions and engage with individuals working with the arts, business as mission, refugees and asylum seekers.
